Arthroscopic view of the medial compartment of the right (human) knee suffering from torn (lacerated) articular cartilage on the femoral condyle. Articular cartilage injuries have very little potential for healing and often progress in size and level of symptoms (which include pain, catching and swelling) and eventually lead to osteoarthritis. The image was captured with a 30 degrees 4mm arthroscope placed in the intercondylar space with the knee flexed to about 30 degrees.
