A bizarre, abnormal, painful, extremely inflamed red sebaceous (epidermoid) cyst lump on a man's back shortly before an urgent medical procedure was done to lance (cut) and pop it open to remove accumulated coagulated keratin and fluid. Liquid from the sac gradually drained out over several subsequent days. Eventually, a plastic surgery procedure will be done to fully open - then remove - the remaining hardened cartilage-like surrounding "shell" structure of the cyst to prevent future problems. Part of a "Day in the Life of a Patient" series.
