Aldabra Giant Tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea) is the last surviving giant tortoise species, which once inhabited some islands of the Indian Ocean. The carapace reaches around 120 cm in length and about 250 kg. The tortoise can live over 100 years. The Aldabra of Mauritius are derived from grandparent stock imported from the Seychelles in the 1880s.
